Potty Training

For several months, Joshua has been incredibly stubborn when it comes to potty training. He absolutely refused to even sit on the potty. We bought a book to read him about a boy going potty. We had some bribe candy to give him. We even had a hefty supply of bribe toys (cars from the movie Cars) waiting for him to use the potty so he could add more cars to his collection. Perhaps I felt pressure from myself to hurry up and get him potty trained because 2 of his closest friends are potty trained and have been for quite sometime!

Finally, last week, I told Joshua that every time we're at home and we change his diaper he has to sit on the potty and he doesn't have a choice! I figured that if he gets used to the feel of sitting on it, then maybe when he finally is ready to give up diapers it will be an easy transition. Sometimes he would sit on the potty for about 10 seconds and other times he would sit for a few minutes. On Wednesday night, he finally went!! I sent him to the bathroom and 30 seconds later he came out with a huge grin on his face saying "Mommy, I did it!" We had a big party (okay, it was rather small since it was just the 2 of us but our celebration was loud) and he enjoyed opening the newest member of his car family, the Michael Schumacher Ferrari from Cars. He's gome 9 times since Wednesday night and has asked for a new car each time. Now I'm trying to help him understand that he'll get a new car if he puts #2 in the potty!

I'm so proud of you, Joshua!

Mine was a Brian and he was just too busy to use a potty. What finally worked was we were going to Oregon to visit a grandmother and I told him that they didn't have diapers in Oregon so he had to use it - hahaha - it totally worked. Potty trained (days) in one day and at night a few weeks later. I think boys just need to be convinced. They could care less what anyone else is doing :)
